Did you know?
Quinoa, referred by many as an ancient grain, is actually a seed. It’s high in protein and contains all the essential amino acids, which makes it a complete protein. And that’s rare for a plant based food.
Quinoa Hot Cereal with Fresh Fruit
Gluten-free and Dairy-free nice hot cereal alternative for breakfast. And cooks in only 15 minutes!
Equipment
- Small Stainless Steel Pot
- Measuring cups
- measuring spoons
- Fine Stainless Steel Mesh Strainer
Ingredients
Quinoa
- 1/2 cup quinoa uncooked
- 1 cup filtered water or coconut water
- Sea salt to taste optional
Topping
- 1/2 cup Blueberries
- 2 Tbsp Pumpkin seeds
- 2 Tbsp Sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk unsweetened
Instructions
- Rinse quinoa well under cold running water in a fine mesh strainer to remove the natural bitter soapy coating called saponin. Generally, once the soapy tiny bubbles are gone, you're good to go.
- Placed well-rinsed quinoa with water and salt in a saucepan, cover and bring to a boil. Turn the heat to low, keep covered, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Divide quinoa between two bowls. Top each bowl with half of the blueberries, pumpkin seeds and almonds. Serve with almond milk.
Notes
Don't have a fine mesh strainer?
No problem. You can use a coffee filter, or even better, a small coffee filter basket.
Living clean and water saving tip!
Put a plug in a clean sink before rinsing the quinoa. Once finished rinsing, feed the water to the plants.
They will love it!!
