Don’t be fooled by the ingredients in this Sweet Potato Immunity Smoothie.
This actually tastes good and is good for you!
And here’s why “This CUP Runneth Over “….
Sweet Potato Immune Power
Sweet potatoes are high in fibre, and rich in minerals and vitamins. And the orange and purple ones are loaded with antioxidants too, that protect our cells from both external and internal environmental damage. They also help defend against viruses and bacteria.
Being higher in fibre, especially a type called resistant starch (that our beneficial bacteria just love to chow down on), which helps nourish our gut-health—then in turn helps support our immune system. I call that a win win!
Turmeric
Turmeric’s (and it’s active compound curcumin) health benefits have been researched well and shown to help fight free radicals and lower inflammation. And when it comes to providing more immune support—it can decrease congestion and inflammation of the mucous membranes. Which helps provide relief from respiratory conditions like bronchitis, asthma, coughs etc.. Love having this with a little raw honey, freshly squeezed lemon and warm water when I am feeling under the weather.
Sauerkraut Gut Power
Sauerkraut is probably one of the most well known fermented veggies. It’s made with cabbage and is fermented in a brine made of salt and cabbage juice. It’s teams of beneficial bacteria and contains prebiotic fibre. It can be purchased from a health food or grocery stores and should be purchased from a refrigerator case and not the store shelf.
The phytochemicals in cabbage are more bioavailable and may protect against carcinogens. Sauerkraut is also a good source of vitamin C, which is found in every cell of the body the gut loves it. Serving size should be 1/4-1/2 cup. But start off slow if you are new to it to help your tummy adjust.
Organic Grass-fed Milk
Organic farmed cattle that has been pastured raised and grazed on pesticide-free grass or browed on plants, both receives and passes along all the that great nourishment into the milk it produces.
Which includes GOS, one of the best prebiotics (food for beneficial bacteria) found by new research, (1) and essential good fats (fats needed by the body daily and can not make so relies on them coming in through the diet).
(2) The omega 6 – 3 fats ratio from grass-fed to convention is much more favourable for lowering inflammation and heart-friendlier too accordingly to research. And grass-fed milk also has higher amounts of CLA, Vit E, and A and healthier saturated fats.
Lastly, with a closer look at the unique digestion system of cattle by scientists, it looks like a diet of grass and plants foraged in the pasture they are raised on are a perfect match. Nature is sooo smart!!
