These Cacao Peppermint Balls use raw cacao powder and are so easy to make in minutes and sure to become a holiday favourite with all. They also make wonderful gifts!

Pssst…don’t tell anyone they are healthy cause they will not believe you.

I use cacao powder which is made from fermented beans that have not been roasted and loaded with antioxidants.  Antioxidants can help to protect your cells from free radicals that are formed from both internal and external toxins.  Regular cocoa powder is processed at a much higher temperature that lowers the antioxidant capacity and some nutrients. And the latter often has added sugars and dairy, but you can use whatever you have on hand. Just do the best with what you have and work towards going cleaner in steps you are comfortable taking. Stress is the biggest killer so make peace with your choices, especially if budget is a concern. If you can’t afford cacao powder, look for the cleanest cocoa powder that you can afford.

When it comes to eating clean you don’t need to give up things you love the most over the holidays…just make them better, using real food, and let the real flavours bring your taste buds to life!

For another holiday treat with a clean twist try my Gingerbread Energy Balls. They are a must if you like gingerbread.

Enjoy!!

  • measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dried dates soft and pitted, medjool are my favourite
  • 1/4 cup Rolled oats gluten free, sprouted (optional)
  • 1/3 cup Unsweetened coconut flakes unsulfured
  • 1/4 cup Walnuts raw, unsalted
  • 1/4 cup Raw almonds raw, unsalted
  • 1/4 cup Hemp hearts and extra for rolling/dipping in (optional)
  • 1/3 cup Raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil virgin, organic preferred
  • 3 drops Peppermint extract pure

Instructions

  • Add the walnuts and almonds to a food processor and blend until smooth like a nut butter.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the processor. Blend well until a nice sticky consistency has been reached.
  • Transfer the mixture to a glass bowl or just remove the food processer's lid and blade.
  • Using a spoon to scoop out and add into the palm of your hand. Roll into even balls using your hands.
  • Store in a glass container in the fridge or freezer until ready to enjoy!

Notes

Option to roll or dip the balls into hemp hearts, cacao powder, shredded coconut or ground up gogi berries would also be nice.
Try a mixture of your favourites.
